Muslim attitudes toward Christianity are analyzed as expressed in the literature of the period and in a field study conducted in 2011-2012. The theme of God's saving victory is identified as an aid in helping Muslims understand the Bible. Jesus' person and work are explained in terms that are more comprehensible to Muslims. Muslim attitudes toward Egypt's Christians are explored. Conclusions are drawn about how the two communities need to build trust and peaceful co-existence particularly in the post-Arab Spring environment in Egypt."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129501865869313,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:16:43.287Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:18:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7dfa91e0-8951-4731-955a-943e7446a9a5","accessControl_ssim":["11d4169c-2bed-4c4a-a2ad-04ab248baf6f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Facing the neo-Gnostic trends in a small PCA congregation in West Texas"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:18:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:50:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["05db2ae8-c910-45c1-b233-83ae9eb3d754"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e856877-0132-4706-8c5c-ccd1b6a23623"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Justyn Terry"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael W Philliber"],"keyword_tesim":["Jesus Christ--Divinity"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry"],"subject_tesim":["Interfaith relations","Presbyterian Church in America","Christianity","Gnosticism","Jesus Christ","Historicity of Jesus Christ"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study examines the ability of a small West Texas congregation to respond to neo-Gnosticism's challenges to the deity of Christ and the historical, authoritative reliability of the connonical gospels. Then an historical analysis of Irenaeus's christology in his anti-Gnostic work shows the importance of affirming the deity of the historical Jesus when addressing Gnostic trends. The study concludes that the Chinese thought of filial piety, the ethics of reciprocal love, the worship of heaven and the belief in 'tao' can serve as points of contact between Christianity and the traditional Chinese religions for mutual understanding and cooperation for the development of a harmonious and peaceful world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716391870267392,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:01:39.741Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:27:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:14:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"392bd7a2-db76-47bd-bbe5-ef25d1de27d2","accessControl_ssim":["82cf9f96-7760-4beb-8465-54f137544715"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Counseling for spiritual depression caused by shamanism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:27:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:47:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e879b894-32a0-45e5-b68b-30ad98ba8a84"],"hasLease_ssim":["f2b5f501-e356-4689-8f53-d95e12a302e2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Westminster Seminary California"],"advisor_tesim":["Edward T Welch"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"location_tesim":["Korea"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mi-Yeoung Yu"],"publisher_tesim":["Westminster Seminary California"],"subject_tesim":["Psychology, Religious","Depression, Mental","Pastoral counseling","Christianity","Shamanism","Interfaith relations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Korean Christians tend to fall into spiritual depression under the historical and cultural impact of shamanism, so that they need to be challenged by the biblical worldview to overcome this depression. Syncretism has occurred when shamanism meets Christianity, with the result that Koreans are confused about the nature of faith. Field research demonstrates a positive correlation (0.763) between shamanism and spiritual depression. A worksheet was made for the spirituality depressed in accordance with the special context of shamanism. The purpose of using these narratives was to tear down stereotypes of the Jewish people by allowing Christians to enter and explore the life experiences of Jews. A standard library research method established the theoretical support for this approach. The study included a group experiment which involved seven Christians from varied social backgrounds. Group testing was conducted at the beginning and end of the experiment using the A-S Scale found in The Authoritarian Personality by Adorno et al (1950). The group read five works of Jewish literature. Each member kept a reading log of personal responses to the literature and participated in group discussions. The results showed little change for the group as a whole. Individually, there were changes of both increased anti-Semitism and decreased anti-Semitism. The reading logs revealed that the participants struggled over their thoughts about the Jews. Frankly, one cannot truly assess the results adequately because the time was inadequate."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata
