Five themes emerge: consistent presence of conflict, perceived lack of spiritual and personal care, absence of relationship building, high levels of family stress, and continuing personal faith. This study formed guidelines for such ministry.  A research of the biblical background of lay ministry centered on the terms elder, deacon, and bishop plus the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  Also included was teaching on the nascent church, contemporary churches, and priesthood of believers.
