An experientially oriented four-session course was developed for 42 ninth-grade confirmands and their parents.  Five instructors were trained as small group leaders.  A pre-test and post-test was administered to the confirmands and parents, and a follow-up interview was conducted by the two pastors. Cultural problems have effected a weakened prayer-life for many Reformed Christians. Sociological conditions have led some to a loss of faith and lack of trust.  For others, role changes in the family have led to a breakdown in familial religious responsibility.  Prayer in the Reformed tradition is then looked at from biblical, historical and theological perspectives.  Biblically, prayer is communion with God. Prayer is traced historically from early Jewish worship to the Puritans.  Theologically, the paper looks at the transcendent and immanent attributes of God, the effect of sin, justification and sanctification on relationships, and how the church community influences our approach to God through prayer. To revitalize prayer-life, various methods of listening, meditating, keeping a journal, and healing are proposed and explained.  The strengths and weaknesses of the Reformed tradition are defined. A research questionnaire was devised and administered to 97 male alcoholics and/or drug addicts. This project focused on eight areas: general background, early childhood, chemical usage, heterosexuality, masturbation, homosexuality, sexual difficulties, and general questions.  The study demonstrates that adult males who are alcoholics and drug addicts have significant sexual dysfunction both when using chemicals and also during periods of sobriety. The study uses questionnaires and interviews to obtain information from patients in treatment on admission, at discharge and following discharge.  The expectation was that there would be a decrease in spiritual experience and religious practice prior to treatment and a decided increase following.  The questionnaires substantiated this expectation. Models are: Niebuhr's Christ as transformer of culture, Dulles' church as mystical communion, and Niebuhr's minister as pastoral director.  The family may act as a small church.  The thesis states that it is appropriate to use the form of the Family Home Evening Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in a United Presbyterian Church (UPC) using UPC content.  Twelve sessions were written. Seven LDS theological beliefs regarding families are considered and compared with UPC beliefs.  This presupposed that LDS theology gave more support to families than UPC beliefs. The thesis concludes that beliefs of one church are as strong for its members as beliefs of the other church are for its members.
