It answers the questions, 'What are the biblical principles of revitalization?' and 'How can these principles be applied to a historic church ministering in present day America?' A biblical and theological foundation for revitalization is presented through a reading of Jesus' letter to the church in Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6). The second half documents the implementation of the Embers to a Flame model at First Reformed Church. This project aims to solve that problem by primarily using the three marks of the church as defined by historic Reformed creeds as the main criteria to consider when looking for a church. The guide gives an introduction to ecclesiology, assuming that most military personnel are unaware of this important doctrine. Curriculum was taught in a 5 year long addiction group. This study concludes that conquering is possible yet finds that the secular and Christian theories presented fall short of solution. Conquering can occur through application of an allegiance to Christ process. The issue of leadership transition is becoming of more frequent concern within the local church. The continual growth in leadership turnover is causing traumatic experiences for not only the pastor in transition, but for the church congregation as well. While it is true that there exists a multitude of various resource guides, books, and strategies on the topic of leadership transition, many pastors and church congregations are still finding themselves unprepared and ill-equipped to endure a leadership transition of a pastor or ministerial leader without bearing some form of traumatic experience. The purpose of this project is to assist the local church body to be better prepared for a change in leadership by providing an effective leadership plan for a transition of leadership. The author developed and deployed a seminar for ascertaining whether an increased understanding of the security of the gospel (i.e., union with Christ) could help Christians engage their troublesome emotions and assist them in the dissolution of negative affect (guilt, fear, or shame). In addition to the training for church eldership, it includes training for sharing the faith community's perspective in the public square. This project seeks to answer the question, 'If the church is going to participate in public dialogue in the public square, who do we send?' It is the author's view that those who the Apostle Paul describes in I Timothy 3:1-7 are the people most suited for this work. In our increasingly secular age, people of faith must be encouraged that they not only have a Biblical mandate to express their witness in the public square as Jesus calls them to be 'salt and light' in the world, but that there is also plenty of precedent in American history.
