The purpose of this research project, therefore, is to provide a thorough analysis of the system of categories engaged in the preparation of a subject approach to indexing the JITC.  These categories include inquiry into the 'theologies of liberation,' 'indexing principles,' 'descriptors,' and 'computer-assisted indexing.' The church belongs to Jesus Christ and therefore all functions of the church must be built on a foundation rooted in spiritual disciplines of faith.  The four phases of the project included a congregation council leadership training program, a retreat on spirituality for congregational leaders, a seminar to train leaders in prayer disciplines, and a program of small group studies on spiritual issues. With insights from feminist theology and organizational behavior, research methodology was based upon principles of phenomenology, with the researcher functioning as a participant observer. Part one consisted of developing a curriculum that helped the young person to know Christ and to make him known.  Part two used pre-test/post-test instruments to evaluate the success of the newly developed material on groups of high school and college students led by trained youth ministers. Data was collected from individual interviews with the participants, their journals and evaluations, and group sessions with specific activities.  Analysis revealed that participants experienced personal growth and integration as an ongoing process with six distinct phases, and that other persons play an important role in that process. Qualitative, feminist methodology was used to design a process which included storytelling, theological reflection and social analysis.  Participating in the research were women from Roman Catholic and Protestant denominations. A phenomenological approach is applied to this qualitative research project. The thesis documents the breakthrough experience in the lives of these women as they name the causes and consequences of their growing feminist self-awareness and the relationship of their self-awareness to their own spiritual journey.  The theory of Bernard Lonergan's self-appropriation of the human subject undergirds this study.  This theoretical framework shapes the process of theological reflection used with the women and sets the scene for an understanding of emerging consciousness in women that is liberating.  A feminist methodology is employed which situates the research in the experience of the researcher.  The findings of this study confirm that there is an emerging feminist consciousness among Catholic women which needs to be nurtured by conscientized and sensitive ministers. The practice of ministry in a congregation made up of people of a variety of ethnic origins will encounter problems resulting from ethnic and cultural differences.  In order for the congregation to be integrated into a working and worshipping whole, these differences must be identified and appreciated.  In-depth interviews of eight family units chosen from the traditional congregation and recent-comers from Guyana were conducted, followed by three group meetings.  Transcripts were analysed, and the findings compared with the experience of similar congregations.
