Initiating the project was a survey of a congregation's perception of faith. Results of the survey reflected the need of Baptists to address the place of experience after the 'born again' event, a lack of discipline, and the influence others have on an individual's spiritual growth. At the end of the project a survey was taken that showed Southern Baptists can develop an understanding of spirituality as journey. Methods included Bible study, retreat days, Sunday preaching, and use of scripture in pastoral counseling. Periodic evaluation and shared reflections were used as indicators of growth. Two assumptions underlie this research: 1) a Christian's personal giftedness is at the core of empowerment for ministry; and 2) empowerment is a multi-faceted reality. The project includes interviews of participants who recount significant events and moments that shaped their involvement in ministry. Results of this research project include a theological statement about empowerment for ministry and a hypothesis focusing on education for ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719652354424832,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:53:29.181Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:14:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:50:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"94d20f21-ddc3-41ba-8bab-46bf71c86db9","accessControl_ssim":["03e718fd-e077-43d6-8bc8-98754800f676"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral care and spirituality: the effects of a spiritual development program on parishioners' anxiety"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:14:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:29:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d2e704c3-a810-4c77-a92d-a1f88473403a"],"hasLease_ssim":["3b00a775-753f-4468-ab26-87bb4b4223b4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Howard University"],"advisor_tesim":["Evans Crawford"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary F Copeland"],"keyword_tesim":["Tests and measurements in religion"],"publisher_tesim":["Howard University School of Divinity"],"subject_tesim":["African Americans","Faith development","Church history","United Church of Christ (Washington, DC)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a spiritual development program on parishioners anxiety. This project involved adult African American volunteers from a United Church of Christ parish in Washington, DC who consented to participate by being a part of either an experimental (treatment) group or the control group.
