The STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) Program was used to raise the awareness and competence level of teenage mothers on parenting.  The church provided training, teachers, and the space for classes.  The community provided services to the teen mothers through the schools, government agencies, and the court systems. There was a total of 46 percent who responded to the questionnaire.  Various statistical data included: a) frequency counts, b) percentage distributions, and c) chi-square. Through the survey and research method two types of questionnaires were formulated and developed. They were then sent to a randomly selected group of clergy to elicit information in the pastoral care ministry of the church. A survey was conducted with a treatment group and a control group.  The treatment group was reissued the survey after a year's time.  The treatment group also was part of a workshop seminar. A needs assessment survey was conducted among the parishioners of New Hope Baptist Church located in Upton community of West Baltimore.  Results revealed that the three greatest areas of concern to the participants were teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and AIDS.  Four seminars were conducted to address these issues. The evaluation forms revealed that 97 percent of the seminar participants believed a clear need existed for parishioners to have information pertaining to the state of health and social concerns effecting Black families. The author contends that 'telling the story' is a powerful way to foster hope in people who are in the midst of suffering and/or even the process of dying.  The structure of the thesis employs the method of story, expressed in segments of a manuscript which the author wrote regarding the life and dying process of his sister.  The author found that telling the story is healing for both those who are willing to share the story and those who are willing to receive it. Results of the study showed significant improvement on some marital satisfaction instruments, while showing no significant improvement on others.  Groups led by lay facilitators were just as likely to show increase in marital satisfaction as were groups led by the researcher and his wife. The study offers a theological reflection on women's experience integrated with pastoral ministry.  Surveys were mailed to a control group of 95 women; personal interviews with other women reflected on the responses. Theological interpretation on the responses is provided by parish staff, a college theologian, and the writer.
