Despite the vast energy poured into the renewal of Roman Catholic liturgy, this project indicates that many Catholics still do not find liturgical celebration to be an adequate expression of their search for, and expression of, God.  Study groups were devised to raise sacramental consciousness.  A comparison of responses made on reflection sheets before and after sessions indicates that the sacramental process had become overshadowed by sacramental events; and for many these events had become empty rituals. The report uses a basic form of heuristic self-reflection coupled with group interaction to unearth psychological  and theological data. This data is then used to tell a mid-life faith story to show how images of God changed. The project utilizes 'logotherapy' and the understanding of the 'wilderness' wanderings of the Isrealite people and Jesus' own experiences in the wilderness to propose a framework for turning faith crises into faith transformations.  This project is intended to impact the training of seminary students and hospital chaplains. Area surveys reveal more needs than churches are able to satisfy.  This project demonstrates ways to recognize resources and provides methods to move from problem oriented to innovative planning. It is the doctrine which grew out of Martin Luther's Reformation experience.  The author entered a study of biblical, theological, and historical and confessional foundations which would help to create a balanced Lutheran spirituality centered on both doctrine and experience.  After a study of the conceptual framework for spirituality, the author sampled the understanding and practice of the spiritual life of 10 percent of the congregation. The curriculum is designed to integrate a wholistic mission theology with an understanding of contemporary world issues.  Throughout the curriculum, the Lausanne Covenant is used as a backdrop against which contemporary world situations are viewed, thus forming mission imperatives for the 1990's.
