Organized under the heads Failure, Foundation, Focus, Form and Function, it comprised 30 theses or statements for discussion with supporting material.  Bible reference sheets were also developed.  The manual was used in a weekend retreat with a small group of church lay leaders. Pre- and post-retreat testing indicated considerable improvement in participants' understanding of the nature and mission of the church. It explores the Pacific island world, analyzes the academic institution and the ecumenical community at the Pacific Theological College, and discusses the kinds of thinking that can be nurtured in the classroom. The project is a disciplined reflection on, and evaluation of, the author's experience in teaching courses in Pacific studies, Christian education, and worship. A panel of lay persons plus a dialogue between biblical scholars made critical biblical scholarship available to the average believer using a video cassette recorder. Research involved perusing Vatican II documents and subsequent directives. Academic study of media production and related disciplines helped complete a new curriculum with a pilot video program which has been successfully field-tested.
