The first step in this investigation was an empirical survey of the extent to which preaching is being done.  Survey participants were non-ordained Dominicans involved in preaching ministries. It provides background for the present situation, reports the findings of the empirical study, holds the data up for reflection and confronts it with pertinent ecclesial questions. The birth or arrival of a child awakens religious concerns and stirs a renewed interest in the church. Such can be an occasion for ministry with families.  A rite of dedication commonly is comprised of three components: thanksgiving, promises and blessing.  It is God who dedicates the child to himself in creation.  The parents and congregation are invited to dedicate themselves to engage in the ministry of Christian nurture on behalf of the child.  The Baptist emphasis upon the believer's faith-response tends to make ambiguous the status of the child too young to profess faith.  In affirming the worth of the child, Jesus implied that the child may be a paradigm of the Christian who relies upon God's gracious initiative. The origin and history of the dedication rite among Baptists remains obscure.  It appears there has been an 'instinct' within Baptists to affirm the child's place in the church through a dedication rite. The author's findings and conclusions are based primarily upon a review of literature using hand and computer research methods, as well as case material drawn from his personal experience in parish, agency, and private practice settings.  The project concludes that Gestalt therapy is an appropriate mode of therapy in pastoral care.  Both the Gestalt therapist and the Old Testament prophet employ imagery in similar fashion. Each perceives the universe, physical and mental, to be a single reality.  While their theological conclusions are distinct, the goal of each is to restore harmony and balance to that which has been interrupted or disrupted. The tapes focus on critical areas of pastoral care within the hospital: The Initial Call, The Presurgical Call, The Spiritual Needs of Patients, Family Members and Imminent Crises.  The tapes will be used for the orientation of pastors who volunteer to serve as night chaplains.  The pastors who volunteer are ordained by their respective denominations, but few of them have been clinically trained as chaplains.  The video tapes have been produced to help introduce the volunteer chaplains to the environment of the hospital in which they will be doing pastoral care.  The tapes endeavor to provide some of the pastoral skills which pastors may be lacking. The tapes teach sound pastoral theology and provide models of pastoral care which the volunteer pastors can discuss and evaluate.  The didactic material raises the issues faced by the patient.  It then seeks to address these issues through actual models of pastoral care. Church attendance growth patterns are compared with Sunday School attendance figures for 1975 through 1979.  The nine Sunday Schools are compared to 'Thirteen Criteria for Growth,' compiled by the writer from Sunday Schools throughout the United States demonstrating numerical growth in the seventies.  Month-long Sunday School emphasis in October 1978 and October 1979 are carefully described, the results of the emphases are compared, and projections for numerical growth for the next decade are made. It reviews why and how amalgamation took place, and surfaces the need for an appraisal in response to new insights and perspectives.  In rural realignment, 'small is beautiful' and attitudinal and spiritual dimensions play an important part.  The report relates the work of the candidate with his Ministry Base Group and with people who experienced amalgamation: those whose churches were closed, those who were in the host churches, the ministers of closed churches, and the people who prevented their churches from closing.  Amalgamation was, for the most part, a negtive experience with a legacy of unresolved problems.
