He focused on strengthening these skills. After a pre and post survey, the researcher scheduled workshops for training and refreshing their skills in administration and organization. The researcher observed the participants in workshop settings and actual pastoral duties in their church. It is the belief of the researcher that his goals were accomplished with significant success. He realized that fifty percent of the participants showed improvement. Through these debates, primarily at its quadrennial gatherings, the church has clarified its theology and established its doctrinal standards.  However, a disjunction has occurred within the church's theological anthropology.  When speaking more generally about theology, the church relies upon one construction of theological anthropology. When speaking about human sexuality and homosexuality, the church relies upon a second, divergent theological anthropology.  If it is the case that the church relies upon a second, divergent theological anthropology when speaking about homosexuality and homosexual practice, then its doctrine on homosexuality and homosexual practice is suspect and needs revision. To resolve this disjunction and provide this revision, the church must (1) identify the divergent theological anthropology currently used in its discussion of homosexuality and homosexual practice and (2) replace that divergent theological anthropology with an alternative, more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology.  This more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology is the Eschaton Adam.  The following thesis argues that this more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology offers the church a new avenue, potentially enabling the denomination to pursue theological precision and to gain greater denominational consensus on the contentious issues of homosexuality and homosexual practice. The primary focus of the class leaders is collecting money and attending to the physical well-being of their members in a limited capacity.  According to the general rules written by Wesley, attention should also be given to the 'means of grace,' or the practice of spiritual disciplines.  Doing so would significantly shape the lives of the members in their spiritual formation.  The researcher used pre and post surveys, lectures and small group process to gether, disseminate and integrate information respectively.  Readings in the areas of Wesley's class leader system and the spiritual disciplines were used to gain knowledge. The research project concluded that when persons were given tools and were intentional about learning and practicing the 'means of grace,' their spiritual journey was enhanced. Qualitative research procedures in the form of personal interviews were conducted with a total of thirty-six individuals using a set of predetermined, open-ended interview questions. It examines some historical functions for preaching as demonstrated by Peter, Origen, Vibia Perpetua, Augustine, and John Wesley.  In addition to the historical overview, the project reveals results of a survey taken among laity and clergy in The Nebraska Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.  Disparity exists between expectations and experiences of the laity regarding preaching.  There is discrepancy between the preachers' beliefs regarding their preaching, and how it is received. Worshipers participated in this contemplative approach to reading Scripture during six midweek Lenten services. In three months, Sunday worshipers' sermon ratings increased almost one third (32%); this increase is statistically significant (p = .00). The Lectio Divina-style approach was introduced to a second congregation, but without the experiential participation.
