The selected leaders included deacon officers, committee chairpersons, and full-time church staff from the First Baptist Church of Oxford, Mississippi. This workshop included skill presentations and opportunities for case study applications. Recognizing the inevitability of conflict, it is essential for Christians to navigate through conflict in a biblical manner. This project researched the field of conflict management and identified biblical passages that enabled the project director to develop a curriculum for the purpose of training the deacons. The deacons are eleven men, chosen by the congregation for the purpose of protecting unity and ministering the needs of the church body. The deacons participated in seven hours of training that led them to develop a biblical perspective and approach to managing conflict. This training included a variety of teaching techniques and evaluations. The curriculum design consisted of seven one-hour and fifteen minute sessions. Eighteen selected leaders met on Wednesday evenings at First Baptist Church, Livingston, Louisiana. The seven sessions addressed the following church conflict management issues: defining conflict and identifying sources of conflict, identifying biblical examples and principles of conflict, discovering conflict management styles, identifying levels of conflict, and utilizing a collaborative problem-solving process as a conflict manager. The project goals included researching how to manage church conflict for the training of the selected leaders, developing the teaching plans in order to equip the selected leaders in conflict management skills, and equipping selected leaders in conflict management skills. The purpose of the project was to equip lay leaders, in order to fashion, field, and lead an adult leadership team. Goals included: (1) enhancing church leadership and ministries; (2) improving the image of the church in the community; (3) replicating leaders throughout the body; (4) repairing damage from discord and abating internal conflict that has stifled the church's progress over the years. Consulting numerous print and electronic journals, ongoing leadership training programs and pastors, the project director designed a biblically-based teaching module that addresses spirituality, leadership skills training, gifts analysis with service opportunity, and conflict resolution. Another important element is evaluation of the trainees, director, and overall program effectiveness.
