The curriculum for the weekend highlighted five disciplines that would be most useful for worship leaders: worship, Bible intake, prayer, solitude and silence, and service.  The project director used various learning methods to train these worship leaders in the five disciplines.  During the five sessions of the equipping workshop, the worship leaders practiced the spiritual disciplines. The supposition of the project was that a crisis exists in North American society regarding the capacity of young adult males to develop toward authentic manhood. The project's thesis was that training young adult males in spiritual disciplines would help them progress toward spiritual maturity and authentic manhood. Through this project the director taught participants how to practice six spiritual disciplines. The project included research of the spiritual discipline of prayer and contemporary spiritual formation methodologies.  This research led to the design, administration, and evaluation of training sessions with the selected leaders.  Training included seven weekly didactic sessions on various dimensions of individual and corporate prayer, with additional assignments between sessions.  Participants assessed assigned readings  and maintained a journal throughout the process with assigned entries germane to the subject matter.  An eighth and final session assessed the participants' mastery of the subject matter and summarized the project material. The intent of this process was to equip the participants to lead the embryonic congregation in the arena of prayer, fostering a culture in which prayer is understood, valued, and practiced. The training materials were introduced in a workshop format spanning the course of several weeks. The experimental research method was used to determine the effectiveness of the program.  The pretest-posttest design was utilized with a control group and experimental group.  The experimental group received eight weeks of training. Accountability groups were exercised as a method for equipping adults in basic spiritual disciplines.
