An assessment of the needs of families in the Cedar Grove community of Shreveport was done, and based on the results, participants were trained to address those needs. The training occurred during seven ninety-minute sessions. The program involved the participants in teaching/training sessions, group discussions, and a neighborhood tour. At the completion of the project, the project director acquired an increased knowledge of inner-city families' needs. Additionally, the project leader developed an equipping model to equip women to encourage husbands as spiritual leaders. Participants addressed the following issues: (1) Roles and expectations of marriage partners; (2) Spiritual development of the wife; and (3) Acts of love that can encourage husbands as spiritual leaders. The project followed the strategy planning model.  The process included a community analysis that revealed the demographics, psychographics, and needs of the First Newark community.  The community analysis was followed by a congregational analysis that included a study of the history, demographics, psychographics, spiritual gifts and mission of the First Newark Baptist Church.  A comparison of the information gathered from the two studies revealed new opportunities for ministry in the First Newark Community.  Strategies for ministry were then developed according to clearly defined data gleaned from the analyses.  A Strategy Planning Team was formed and utilized in the planning and initial implementation process. The workbook followed a systematic analysis of a selected bibliography that analyzed subject genre, spiritual disciplines, and theological tenets.  The director established the genre format to be a workbook in orientation using the question and answer format with commentary and illustration.  The director selected the theological tenets of soteriology, Christology, ecclesiology, and biblical authority and the spiritual disciplines of Bible study, prayer, stewardship, and evangelism as workbook materials. The project included conducting two focus groups with unchurched students.  A strategy planning team of sixteen students and adults were recruited from the church fellowship.  Two training sessions and three strategy sessions were conducted.  Several types of evaluation were used including expert evaluation, team member evaluation, and pastoral reflection.  A monthly implementation review team was selected, and the church voted in a monthly business meeting to adopt the strategy. The project director taught instructional material concerning the biblical concepts of leaders and assigned the purpose-based teams to perform their ministries according to the church's five purposes: (1) Worship Team, (2) Fellowship Team, (3) Discipleship Team, (4) Ministry Team, and (5) Evangelism Team.  The objective was accomplished through a blended approach of research, sermon series, and training sessions.
