The project designed a curriculum of eight training sessions and five strategy-development sessions.  The entire church heard a series of eight sermons on the life and mission of the church.  The project studied an experimental group and two control groups, using a pretest and posttest to measure cognitive changes in the groups.  Statistical analysis of the tests reported a change in Control Group A and a significant change in the experimental group. The training program included lectures, directed reading, discussion, practice exercises, assigned visits to various churches, and a rehearsal worship service planned and conducted by participants.  Project participants then planned, conducted, and evaluated Sunday morning worship for six weeks.  The project succeeded only in part, since some participants refused to lead public worship, insisting on involvement of members who had not participated in the project. Activities included training sessions, completing a spiritual gifts inventory, and participating in field experiences.  Evaluation included pre-test and post-test questionnaires, expert opinion, interviews, and critical observation. Both the descriptive survey method and the experimental method were employed in the project.  An assimilation scale was developed and used to measure a person's level of assimilation.  An eight-week new members seminar was designed to assist the new members. The seminar addressed eight characteristics of an assimilated church member.  Two hypotheses were established. The project design included a five-week training seminar on the discipline of prayer in the devotional life. A sixth session about leading small groups was implemented among the deacon group. Through historical research, a thesis was developed that a public relations campaign was a suitable method for the effort.  With the assistance of the public relations committee, a nine-week public relations campaign was designed, implemented, and evaluated.  The project was an attempt to demonstrate the genuine concern First Baptist Church had for the surrounding community.
