Instructional sessions were designed to address the needs of divorced persons and to train the experimental group in self-help group dynamics. Statistically significant improvement was measured in the divorce adjustment of those involved in the instructional sessions. The project director led 'Cults and the Family' conferences in three states utilizing materials he produced.  Conference participants were pretested and posttested to measure knowledge acquired in the conferences.  Postconference and follow-up questionnaires also were submitted to participants. The project began with the hypothesis that the congregation had an inadequate understanding of the purpose and function of the funeral service.  The congregation demonstrated the validity of the hypothesis after completing a congregational survey.  Eleven church members participated in a study of the funeral service as worship.  The study involved three sermons, five teaching sessions, and two workshop classes. A series of sermons and sermon interactions was utilized to increase the congregation's awareness of the need for training new adult members in discipleship.  A curriculum was designed that consisted of ten discipleship training sessions.  To determine the effectiveness of the program, the experimental research method was used. Positive attitudinal changes were affected in deacons and church members toward supportive counseling.
