A survey of new members added to a congregation over a four-year period reveals that more than 90 percent joined and were baptized as a result of attending the class. In the class the participants' stories become the stories of those who share them in reading and hearing. After determining ministry needs and possibilities through a congregational survey and analysis of community demographics, the project enlists participants in six introductory and six 'phase two' classes and presents three sermons on ministry teams. In six sessions and a workshop over a period of eight months, participants focus on the text by praying and centering, and then, as the Spirit moves, they raise questions and enter dialogue. At this point the text seems to explode. This transforming Bible study method offers great possibilities for participants to transform and be transformed by the renewing of their minds (Rom 12:1-2). The diversity that appears to be threatening unity and advancement of the postdenominational church is in fact a gift of God.  This diversity, under guidance of the Holy Spirit and (in part) through the ministry of preaching, can be harnessed for great good in carrying out local church mission.  The project directed a process that drafted a statement of congregational identity for approval by the congregation. Will they be able to live more consistently as Christian disciples in the world? This project seeks to answer these questions a pretest/posttest questionnaire administered to 68 laypersons.  The experimental group of 34 persons received six hours of theological instruction. The control group of 34 persons received no instruction.
