It examines the elements of intuition, memory, imagination, and the commitment, as necessary components of spiritual discernment. Four active laity were recruited from the congregation in Milbank, South Dakota, to serve a Project Task Force (PTF). This group collaborated with the pastor, studied discernment, developed the instrument and process used for this project, and evaluated their process. Recognizing the mutual ministry of laity and clergy, a core group called the pastor's advisory committee (PAC) was formed to study, develop, and implement such a plan.  The aim of this project was threefold: to identify the problem of inactivity within the membership; to develop biblical/theological thought on inactivity; and to employ a pilot program to start the reassimilation process. The author conducted training sessions which involved lay members of the congregation.  They in turn led meetings in private homes to ascertain what needs people thought the church could help fill. The study was performed during the period of one Charge Conference year in the Wesley Memorial-Chambersville United Methodist Charge of McKinney, Texas.  In a modern application, Wesleyan theology was contextualized through an understanding of evangelism rooted in the thought of Charles G. Finney.  In this orientation, converted peoople brought about social change. Emphasis on numerical growth was secondary.
