The project involves approximately 200 adults in study of three different approaches to mission.  This five-week study, conducted in the Sunday School, produced the raw material for a congregational mission statement that was adopted by the administrative board.  The process also involved many church members in actual mission projects. An ad hoc committee of twelve persons worked in eight weekly sessions with two sources of information: demographic data and a congregational survey.  Nine long-range goals and eight pastoral leadership skills were developed and presented to the congregation at a church conference. The practicum was conducted over a five-month period, being focused in the work of a ten-member task force.  After an initial phase of spiritual preparation, task force members were encouraged to define the congregation's 'ideal' mission through a modification of Richard Broholm's 'envisioning process.'  Congregational convocations helped the group refine its work for final presentation to the official church council.  Research hints at the value of a mission statement, management by objective, and the envisioning process in church administration. The practicum was conducted over a period of four months utilizing a strategic planning committee of 13 laity and the pastor.  It concluded with a two-day administrative council planning retreat.
