This study is designed to motivate people through consciousness-raising to link the faith they possess to the way they behave economically.  The project consisted of an 8-week study conducted at the United Methodist Church (Wellston, Oklahoma).  A 165-page workbook was provided for use during the study. The Church is of God and will never disappear, and it is because we believe this that we have conducted this project in the hope of bringing about change among those of us called Christian beginning with an annual conference of the United Methodist Church.  The practicum was conducted over a 12-week period of time.  Two groups, one made up of female clergy and one made up of male clergy, were recruited from an annual conference and asked to meet as consciousness-raising groups using the book Women's Growth in Connection.  The emphasis of the groups was to focus on justice issues between male/female clergy using their own experience and calling forth their hopes for and commitment to change. The practicum examines the issues of school dropout.  Additionally, it examines the role of the community and church in their impact on the prevention of the issue of school dropouts.  The practicum was conducted over a six-week period of time.  A group of ten laypersons was recruited from Porter Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas.  The group met each Saturday during the six-week period to discuss practical and theological positions for meeting needs in the South Dallas community.  The main goal was to explore concrete ways the church could work in the community to aid in the school dropout problem.  The group decided to offer a tutorial program to address the academic needs of the student. The group also decided to address issues of spiritual formation with the student. It utilized the gathering of demographic information to identify cultural lifestyles present in a congregation and community.  Unexpected results necessitated a closer examination of the data. Possible reasons for the discrepancies were considered. After examining the data, focus groups were organized from within the congregation to critique and participate in planning worship.  The project revealed serious questions concerning cultural lifestyle theory. The setting for the research done to complete the project was in smaller churches with school enrollments of less than 300.  The practicum was conducted over a five-month period.  A survey was constructed for students eight to eleven years old with questions concerning Bible knowledge and spirituality. Teachers were also surveyed to determine their satisfaction with the current curriculum. Dr John Savage's program on Calling and Caring Ministries is used as the method for training, calling preparation, and on-going support.  In-depth listening skills are taught to participants as the primary means of addressing the needs of inactive members.  Listening skills training precedes the calling phase of the practicum/project and both the training and calling give participants experience in reaching church drop-outs.  The practicum was conducted over a six-month period of time.  The pastor attended two training events, a group of nine lay persons was recruited, lay training and calling experiences were evaluated.  The practicum revealed the importance of pastoral and lay training in preparation for calling on inactive members. Recognizing the early signs of inactivity and making an immediate, caring response will reduce the number of church drop-outs. Pastors assigned to small town and rural churches who have little or no background in small town culture go through a culture shock akin to those who are serving in a foreign land.  This project was designed to introduce the culture and values of the small town and help participants identify the issues with which people in these communities are dealing.  By using the accumulated knowledge and experience of participants and the writings of rural sociologists, several key issues were identified during this three-day workshop and solutions were established collectively. The author planned and led seven worship services at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church that were integrated around the sermon's theme. The goal is equipping members of this church for evangelistic outreach.  An assumption is that evangelism must draw its fundamental content and inspiration from the early community that gave birth to its initial efforts.  I Peter is used as a paradigm for evangelistic strategy. Attention is given to the theological foundation for evangelism.  This is compared to the theological emphasis that traditionally has driven Churches of Christ.  The practicum was developed as a workshop on evangelism presented to leaders of a small group ministry in the Granbury Church of Christ.  Shared praxis was the pedagogical method used.  The main goal proved to be too ambitious for this task.
