It uses the liturgical rites of the Lenten phase of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).  The biblical and theological foundations of the project develop the understanding of faith in a holistic way which involves the whole person, mind, heart and will.  They lead him or her to carry out works of justice. It sees funeral directing as a form of ministry which complements rather than competes with traditional ministry.  It suggests that a common theological dimension should inform both the pastor and the funeral director to permit a holistic response to the needs of the bereaved.  The project presents funeral directing case studies and uses a process theology model to relate problems to care giver responses. The reason for devising the titled plan and a description of the plan itself follow. Six classes (outlined in the dissertation) were held to teach caring skills to separate groups of church officers and lay members, using biblical 'caring' passages, psychological principles, understanding problems of the dying, the grief cycle, etc.  The writer's evaluation of the program, determined through individual interviews with each trainee after completion of the classes, as well as evaluation of the program's effect on the writer's own ministry are included.
