Ararat Baptist, formed a collaborative relationship to provide mentors for predominately African American boys. This was a case study using quantitative and qualitative measurements of the boys' grades, attendance, absenteeism and behavior. The author researched the role that faith played in the mentors' lives. The Faith Maturity Index was used to determine the maturity level of the mentors. The mentors and boys were interviewed to determine how the Christian men had made a positive difference in the boys' lives. This was accomplished by: (1) reflection upon the mission of the church in light of changing environmental needs; (2) holding a Mission Sunday to involve the community in formulating a current statement of mission and sense of corporate identity; (3) conducting a planning retreat to set priorities, objectives, and strategies; and (4) evaluation of processes and results.
