This work contains a survey of trauma studies in the United States and its influence on theology, particularly Reformed theology. It also surveys several passages in the Gospel of Mark through a trauma-aware lens. John Calvin’s legacy is reconsidered through his own potentially traumatic circumstances. The project contains independent research on the impact of trauma-informed spiritual practices on the pastoral care capacities of nine pastoral leaders over the course of approximately six months. The author created a seminar on Orthodox ecclesiology and presented it to nine parish priests who in turn instructed nine different groups of parish council members. Evaluative methods included surveys, field notes, and expert evaluations. This study involved the placement process within the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida during the past five years. Thirty parishes were evaluated after placement of clergy to determine the matching process' success.  The result of the examination indicated that the process works when followed carefully and without circumvention. This lack of clarity produces a frustation in both lay people and pastors which may cause them to move from one church to another or to leave the church altogether.  This project developed an eight week adult Sunday school class that explored the roles and expectations of clergy and lay people. Four laypersons and the rector participated in the training and catechesis. Except for rejection of females as staff leaders and their frustration in changing pastorates, attractive personality and competence are more important than gender. Inadequate knowledge of common staff dynamics, in which sex is but one factor, causes misunderstandings of their complexity.  To enhance harmony and mutuality during candidacy and in staff relationships, a discussion-starter is provided. A theoretical model of staff relationships is developed.
