A handbook includes practical guidelines for organization and activities for program. The conclusion of the study shows that process thinking, inductive reasoning and faith development research provide the basis for a dynamic Christian community. Their effectiveness would be enhanced if they examined their faith journeys and forged a cooperative partnership with their church.  The method of study was a combination of a learning-support group of parents who met to share needs and concerns and to test resources developed with a survey of selected parents in three different-sized United Methodist congregations. The interview technique was adapted from a study done by William Perry and based on the faith development models of John Westerhoff and James Fowler. Those who were active in the church's youth program displayed a number of characteristics including: supportive parents, some type of emotional 'faith experience,' and a significant relationship with another adult for whom faith was important and meaningful.  Those interactions are more significant in some ways than the curriculum or program used.
