It analyzes present varied practices used by Lutheran churches to call their pastors, measures attitudes towards their practices, and suggests viable alternatives. The method of study involves an examination of the call-placement process used by six Christian churches in the United States.  It also involves data from a sampling survey sent out to 450 Lutheran pastors and congregational presidents.
