The project examines recent cultural and denominational reviews of individualism, investigates connectivity in the Book of Acts, interviews pastors and reports recent models of connectivity.  Based on these findings, the project presents resolutions and four models from the early church, documenting the rise of extreme individualism in culture and churches. The project analyzes congregational innovations that blend what is central to Reformed worship with liturgical styles from the 'creative,' 'praise and worship,' and 'high liturgical' traditions, using a participant-observer study method.  The underlying theological and liturgical question raised by each blended liturgy centers around the Reformed notion of 'freedom in form.' How much freedom is allowable? How much form is required? Although they comprise a significant proportion of lay leadership, deacons are frequently underused and appear to flounder.  This project examines this ministry of the deacon and provides specific options for its improvement.  Through the use of surveys and in-depth interviews, the project identifies four pivotal areas where deacons appear to flounder: 1) biblical-historical roots; 2) understanding their role as 'the Body' of Christ; 3) servanthood; 4) purposeful organization. Interviews with forty-four Homestead Presbyterian pastors and spouses revealed that their marriage relationships were generally healthy, and that where problems arise the causes are seldom from the clergy job or other external forces, but stem principally from internal attitudes and expectations of self and others.  From the studies a manual was written to provide guidance to committees on ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in nurturing and supporting pastors and spouses. Theology of any kind, which fills the ego needs of one individual or group at the expense of others will eventually make the church's life dysfunctional. Theological expression must provide positve ego fulfillment in order for the church to be what God intends. The author includes a study of attitudes toward persons with disabilities, and two questionnaires.  Some pastoral care theories and practices are reviewed.  Conclusions are affirmative of contributions made by pastors with disabilities.  Those who have 'been there' do create a better sense of rapport with clients or parishioners going through painful life experiences.
