This dissertation explains the nature of shock, its affect on family; discusses the value of funerals, and illustrates how the funeral message can be developed to aid the family in a therapeutic manner and be spiritually comforting. This links campus and parish ministries in taking advantage of the model for community life, spiritual growth and service. A model of this kind of nurturing ministry and analysis of its inherent Christian value forms the basis of this study. The model is limited to ministry to and with students, not the total academic community. It is a new plan of ministry that involves the local parish, campus ministry, student and local clergy. After a discussion of campus life and attitudes and approaches to campus ministry during the 1960s and 1970s, the author proposes volitional theology as the basis for a practical model of campus ministry in the 1980s."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791124962628599808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:04:34.333Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:29:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:06:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"528f38ec-0bf1-4981-85f7-4333a581feb1","accessControl_ssim":["44441587-8f17-4bf9-8fa9-c0510da8e761"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The use of arts in worship in multiuse space"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:29:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:33:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["92e79be2-b634-48ac-9df7-fe476ea1488e"],"hasLease_ssim":["44e23ffd-b914-4fbe-8fb4-2b755ba7dc25"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John J Rudin"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Perry Alfred Thomas"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Liturgics and the arts","Church architecture"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["New kinds of architectural space must be provided for congregations. Charisma is defined as 'God's grace that motivates and enables Christians to minister in God's power'. Romans 12:3-9 is the only list of 'spiritual gifts' that begins with the technical term Charismata. Distinction is made between 'offices' (Ephesians 4:11-12), 'manifestation of the Spirit' (1 Cor 12:7-11) and Charismata. The hypothesis, 'as Christians learn what their spiritual gift is, they will be freed and equipped for ministry' is supported with surveys and interviews with 21 members of St John's Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. Common characteristics of the 'same gift' are incorporated into a questionnaire written to help other Christians discover their Charismata."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717532224978944,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:19:47.269Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:28:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:10:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"990041ce-af93-456e-9821-47f1b97f9899","accessControl_ssim":["562dc6ea-44f7-4a04-923b-53396011fa42"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The local church and the working woman: local church programming for the working woman in Buffalo County, Nebraska"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:28:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:36:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["36ef63f8-bca0-4291-b425-f8044a631a1f"],"hasLease_ssim":["7bcf7327-1777-4a10-a89a-ba480dc216df"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John Krejci"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Warren Charles Swartz"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Women","Women--Employment","Congregations","First United Methodist Church (Kearney, Neb)","Theology","Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The dissertation deals with the specific programming created for working women in a church of 2081 members in Kearney, Nebraska, a community of 21000. It examines women in the American economic scene, and the rapid entrance of women in the job market following WW II. To ease the pressure of combined job and home responsibilities, many women have dropped out of church. The project reflects the process in which First United Methodist Church of Kearney worked at solving this problem. The theological basis was explored in the light of the writings of the Bible and the writers of women's theology of today. Value conflicts were studied and the impact considered. Programs were designed and implemented into ongoing activities of the church. The programs were then evaluated according to effectiveness in meeting specific needs. Survey instruments were designed and used throughout to measure response and evaluate the success of the program changes. A local Commission on the Status and Role of Women was created along National Church Committee lines. The Movement, amid pain and tensions and other spiritual gifts, is seen as part of a renewal."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125180582461440,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:08:02.190Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:28:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:03:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"23cbb1e8-ca2c-4e43-ae6b-1f8dcc156ee5","accessControl_ssim":["9bf2652c-151c-4e89-851a-cc6901e0f7ae"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Women in United Church of Christ parish ministry: an inquiry and handbook"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:28:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:11:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["694bb0ac-93e2-43e4-97d6-79f4df4d5cf2"],"hasLease_ssim":["0c1d019f-8ffe-41c2-b1aa-2145b9f70c46"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Joann Nash Eakin"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sally Stevens Smith"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","United Church of Christ","Seminarians, Women","Women clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation considers the biblical and theological roots for the ministry of women, the story of women in American church life and the present context for women in ministry in church and society. Initially there is a study of four exorcism stories in Mark and an evaluation of data from contemporary philosophical, psychological and theological works. The research was conducted in visits with three United Presbyterian congregations in Oklahoma. Groups of church leaders and members were interviewed relative to their experiences of alienation while members of local congregations. The interviews provide five case studies for demonstrating dehumanizing forces within local churches. To counter such forces, the author offers a management theory through which members ground their ministry in spiritual disciplines and act on principles of relationships.
