My thesis is that the preaching of the gospel together with providing social ministry will have a positive impact on those who live in Hartford's troubled inner-city. The research included a likert scale questionnaire and a focus group using open-ended questions.  I successfully trained 38 persons to witness and make disciples in gang infested, crime ridden neighborhoods that surround Mount Moriah Baptist Church. It focused on a ten week study of the spiritual disciplines of accountability, Scripture memorization, prayer, Bible study, evangelism, Christian character, missions and discipleship and was carried out in both group and individual settings.  The Scriptural basis for these disciplines was examined as they appeared in the life of Christ with other biblical support analyzed in the Great Commission and Jesus' quotation of the Greatest Commandment.  Various methodologies are researched. To test this thesis, a series of twelve biblical sermons on discipleship was preached at Crowfield Baptist Church, Goose Creek, South Carolina. A focus group of 16 persons was administered a pretest and posttest to determine the effectiveness of the preaching series in increasing listeners' knowledge of biblical teachings on discipleship, and upon their personal state of discipleship. The covenant model was chosen because it most clearly defines several significant aspects of the Christian experience.  A believer's position in Christ, privileges, and responsibilities were all important topics of the course.  Chapter 2 defines covenant theology and expresses how this approach is beneficial to all believers. Chapter 3 reveals the foundational nature of all human development, including faith development.  Stage development theory, simply stated, is that all maturity progresses through a series of stages that are hierarchical in nature; meaning that they build upon one another. Christian maturity also depends upon a strong foundation for successful progress.
