Chapter 1 states the rationale for strategizing. Chapter 2 presents biblical and theological foundations for strategizing by churches. Chapter 3 posits theoretical foundations of strategic planning for churches today by presenting and critiquing eight current models. Chapter 4 articulates the four-step Eureka Paradigm for strategizing by churches. The four steps are retrospection, introspection, prospection, and direction. Chapter 5 addresses the possible reasons for the lack of acceptance of the Eureka Paradigm. Two specific methodologies were used for research.  The first was a questionnaire which was completed by members of the congregation.  The second was a series of small-group discussions which allowed church members to share concerns and discuss long-range ideas.  The study caused the church congregation to consider their biblical and theological mandates for mission. Biblical, theological, and historical support relates to the involvement of divine leadership in the planning process. Chapter two examines the biblical, theological and historical material associated with the nature and the purpose of the church, proposing that the church should be involved in worship, evangelism, discipleship, ministry and fellowship.  Chapter three examines contemporary material on the development and implementation of a mission statement and vision statement. Specific steps for the development of each statement are included and the process of implementation is discussed. Chapter four provides a detailed report of the completion of the project, examining each step carefully.
