On one hand, MSCs have been touted as being successful in “reaching” more people with fewer resources, making it a very efficient and effective strategy for church growth. On the other hand, the structure of MSCs have been called into question. Some claim this movement runs wide of Baptist ecclesiology, resulting in a deluded and distorted representation of the NT teaching concerning the doctrine of the church. Southern Baptist opponents claim MSCs are a breach of Article VI of the Baptist Faith \u0026 Message 2000. The question at hand: Is it possible for one church to maintain Southern Baptist ecclesiology, particularly adhering to the BFM2000 Article VI, and adopt the MSC strategy? The research will address Southern Baptist ecclesiology from a biblical and historical perspective. An evaluation of the definition and history of the MSC movement as well as an evaluation of the various structures of MSC strategies will provide essential for a solid conclusion. A review of the critics, as well as a response to their prominent objections, is necessary to achieve thorough evaluation. It is the claim of this research project that it is possible for an MSC to adhere to Article VI of the BFM2000. The polycentric model is where the 'mother' church and a cluster of one or more 'ethnic' churches operate separately on the same campus. Very few of these churches have transitioned to become truly multiracial and continue to either decline or plateau. This dissertation examines the history, underlying assumptions, possible influence, and effectiveness of polycentric churches, and provides a critique of such churches against a theological backdrop. Confident in the preemptive power of biblical preaching, the project leader proposes that God's word, faithfully prepared and communicated, is essential to the continuing health of a church's spiritual immune system. The project thus argues for the strategic deployment of biblical texts that sensitize a congregation and her leaders to the inevitability of conflict while equipping them to address conflict redemptively in its early rather than later stages. The project thus proposes to train a new senior pastor and his key leaders in the homiletical skills essential to effective biblical preaching. During this project, the pastor and each leader-participant will be equipped to prepare and present one sermon to their congregation on the subject of biblical admonition, each developed from select biblical texts undergirding this project. Participants will also prepare a second sermon from the following areas of study: God's covenant nature, the priesthood of all believers, an organic view of the Church as community, the Holy Spirit's role in healthy community life, and the Lord's Supper as a strategic window into biblical forgiveness. These sermons further seek to encourage healthy theological reflection accompanied by practical obedience to the texts expressed in a corporate recommitment to the practice of restorative admonition. A church's response to the certainty of human failure within her ranks impacts the credibility of her witness to Christ's forgiveness with those outside the believing community. This will enable a balanced approach to the understanding needed to properly evaluate past history, define current growth and allow for creative planning for the future. This model will address both the traditional and postmodern cultures each with its own unique needs and desires. The project leader wishes for both groups to grow numerically and spiritually within the church. The challenge will be to lead both generations to appreciate one another and to allow that appreciation to lead them to cooperating together in the spirit of unity. The desired outcome of this research project if for both traditional and postmodern members to understand each other's various needs and to be willing to accept ministries that will meet the needs of both groups within the same congregation and in the community. The author developed the process by researching the available literature and information on this subject and by interviewing leaders at four churches that had experienced the loss of a pastor because of moral failure.
