Over a period of 13 weeks the author presented stories over each beatitude, using pre-tests and post-tests, to measure any changes on the participant that may have been a result of the story's influence. One week after the story the author presented a sermon on the previous beatitude to help underscore the point of the story itself. At the beginning and end of the project, spiritual growth assessment inventories were administered to determine any overall changes in attitude and action. The model that is identified is described as a 'hospitable, eschatological welcome.' The five pericopes studied contain both examples and teaching from the earthly ministry of Jesus, demonstrating the alignment that existed between his words and actions on this subject. In particular, the pericopes center around Jesus' controversial ministry to the sinners and tax collectors, the criticism he received from the Pharisees, and his commission to the disciples. In addition, table fellowship, as an element of the oriental hospitality, is explored as the cultural context for that which was occurring in the key passages of study. The history of God's salvation plan is the theological backdrop, beginning with God's heart for the stranger in the Old Testament and ending with a look at the cross as the most powerful example of the hospitality of God toward man. The model identified presents a clear pattern for current evangelistic efforts that will aid the church in taking advantage of present opportunities in the twenty-first century."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132626326650880,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:06:23.005Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:26:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:09:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"beefa095-c955-4d78-88ad-f6f9bdf8fbf9","accessControl_ssim":["e7347741-7bbc-42fa-834f-c312f220c5a7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A rhetorical analysis of the use of a main idea in the meaning of John Han Heum Oak"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:26:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:37:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9005f1e6-3b4b-4ac3-bb28-3a3b629e8a99"],"hasLease_ssim":["e0b99629-ff70-45a6-91d2-de517bf9db31"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Smith"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Eundong Kim"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Preaching, Baptist","Ok, Han Hm"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Preaching is one of the most important ministries in the church. Preaching every Sunday is a demanding job for the pastor of a local church. Nevertheless, a pastor must take the task of preaching seriously, because, historically, God used preaching to call His own people and bring them to salvation. Therefore, a pastor must do his best to preach in order to effect a change in his audience for God's glory. One concern of a pastor is to know how to use a main idea in his preaching. This thesis will examine the use of a main idea in twenty sermons that exemplify the preaching of John Han Heum Oak. Various kinds of methods may be incorporated for preaching effectively. One of them is to use a main idea. The purpose of preaching is not merely to pass on useful information, but to motivate a change in a person to live his or her life for God. Preaching will not achieve its purpose, therefore, when it delivers many ideas at once, because people will not understand or remember many ideas given in a short time frame, Preaching will be effective when the sermon conveys a single theme."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132857078382592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:10:03.067Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:26:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:49:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"14a0a5e9-6103-47b6-be4f-76e47f06473f","accessControl_ssim":["83ac86f9-8ee0-4853-a684-05f397f26123"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The relevance of the Trinity to congregational unity"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:26:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:43:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9b17e5d7-fff2-49dc-bf03-966d4c1787c2"],"hasLease_ssim":["17cb4ee3-a0f4-4605-b595-f498d70715b6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["W Michael Wilson"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gary Mel Redding"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Trinity--History of doctrines","Communities--Religious aspects","Church--Unity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Congregational unity is to be based upon the ontological unity of the family of God as revealed in the Trinitarian Godhead. Confident in the preemptive power of biblical preaching, the project leader proposes that God's word, faithfully prepared and communicated, is essential to the continuing health of a church's spiritual immune system. The project thus argues for the strategic deployment of biblical texts that sensitize a congregation and her leaders to the inevitability of conflict while equipping them to address conflict redemptively in its early rather than later stages. The project thus proposes to train a new senior pastor and his key leaders in the homiletical skills essential to effective biblical preaching. During this project, the pastor and each leader-participant will be equipped to prepare and present one sermon to their congregation on the subject of biblical admonition, each developed from select biblical texts undergirding this project. Participants will also prepare a second sermon from the following areas of study: God's covenant nature, the priesthood of all believers, an organic view of the Church as community, the Holy Spirit's role in healthy community life, and the Lord's Supper as a strategic window into biblical forgiveness. These sermons further seek to encourage healthy theological reflection accompanied by practical obedience to the texts expressed in a corporate recommitment to the practice of restorative admonition. A church's response to the certainty of human failure within her ranks impacts the credibility of her witness to Christ's forgiveness with those outside the believing community. This proposal thus contends that God's Word faithfully proclaimed can create a local people of God willing to live accountably before the Lord and one another."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132778379608064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:08:48.014Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:25:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:01:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"75575d1c-22d6-4204-a5f0-02ba07ec885d","accessControl_ssim":["2d6e3b71-2e0c-4c55-a6c7-fe7af18a23a7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a church-based model for relational ministries among the homeless"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:25:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:34:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e7398eac-de77-4ae0-9d77-aa0d03c186ee"],"hasLease_ssim":["c9558ef5-ee4d-4d88-9552-a558853798c4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Penley"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Roddy K Youree"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Church work with people experiencing homelessness"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project provides a viable ministry model for Christian churches that seek to engage homeless persons in effective relational ministries. Grounded in the biblical assertions that Christians are to be motivated by the commands to 'love your neighbor as yourself' (Lev 19:18; Luke 10:27) and to 'go and make disciples' (Matt 28:19), the model is built upon three essential concepts: (1) a biblical motive and method for helping the homeless; (2) a comprehensive team mentoring approach; and (3) the necessity of ongoing training and support provided by a local Christian homeless service organization. Each were taught and demonstrated to project participants during a ten-week classroom and field training experience."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132306505728000,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:01:18Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":8,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Danny L Masters","hits":1,"label":"Danny L Masters"},{"value":"Eundong Kim","hits":1,"label":"Eundong Kim"},{"value":"Gary Mel Redding","hits":1,"label":"Gary Mel Redding"},{"value":"Jong-Sung Lee","hits":1,"label":"Jong-Sung Lee"},{"value":"Lim, Subyoung","hits":1,"label":"Lim, Subyoung"},{"value":"Paul E White","hits":1,"label":"Paul E White"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Koreans","hits":2,"label":"Koreans"},{"value":"Beatitudes","hits":1,"label":"Beatitudes"},{"value":"Bible--Study--Methodology","hits":1,"label":"Bible--Study--Methodology"},{"value":"Bible.
