This dissertation encouraged church leaders to do total mobilization through the two main wings of a successful evangelism event, which are fervent prayer ministry and cooperative service ministry. The ministry of Jesus and the early church demonstrated how prayer and service ministry promote effective evangelism. The history of the Korean church's evangelism methods and the crusade evangelism in the United States revealed that fervent prayer and service ministry determined the effectiveness of total mobilization. This is seen through a critical analysis of passages in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah that demonstrate Ezra's practice of the discipline. Chapter 1 gives an introduction with the thesis, methodology, criteria for passage selection, deliminations, obstacles, goal, application to ministry, and theological considerations. Chapter 2 demonstrates and defends the thesis through a biblical critical analysis and theological study demonstrating the spiritual disciplines proposed and states a conclusion. Chapter 3 presents future plans of how these spiritual disciplines can be adapted for specific continued ministry. These behaviors and dynamics are frequently present and noticeable in their dying/death events. The end of a patient's life gives a chaplain the opportunity to provide pastoral care. First, this dissertation demonstrates God's preparatory activity in general revelation. The first voyagers to Hawaii had a general knowledge of a supreme being. Second, this dissertation demonstrates God's use of historical events to present special revelation to the Hawaiians through the missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Finally, this dissertation demonstrates the application of research findings toward the writer's present ministry at Puna Baptist Church. These research findings will revitalize Puna Baptist Church's evangelistic strategy. The new evangelistic strategy will utilize the historical fact that the first Hawaiian voyagers had a general knowledge of a later monotheistic supreme being, and this evangelistic strategy will reveal that the religious system was imposed upon the Hawaiians by a foreign entity. Additionally it proposes a book which will equip Christians to defend the traditional dualistic view of human nature, or the doctrine of the soul. The author surveyed the history of the dualism/monism debate, the biblical view and the philosophical and scientific arguments for each side, in order to explicate the issue. Chapter 2 includes the descriptive statistics and frequency tables and then enumerates the survey findings.
