The research focuses on eight passages in 1-2 Corinthians where Paul speaks of his own suffering, determining how he suffered and how he responded to that suffering. Paul's responses are developed into 6 attitudes and 3 actions as the Christian's response to suffering. This openness has to be encouraged because of the withdrawal, isolation, silence, and anger they may face during their hospital in-patient experience. These behaviors and dynamics are frequently present and noticeable in their dying/death events. The end of a patient's life gives a chaplain the opportunity to provide pastoral care. This ministry geared toward Hispanics allows them to the the recipients of spiritual healing. First, this dissertation demonstrates God's preparatory activity in general revelation. The first voyagers to Hawaii had a general knowledge of a supreme being. Second, this dissertation demonstrates God's use of historical events to present special revelation to the Hawaiians through the missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Finally, this dissertation demonstrates the application of research findings toward the writer's present ministry at Puna Baptist Church. These research findings will revitalize Puna Baptist Church's evangelistic strategy. The new evangelistic strategy will utilize the historical fact that the first Hawaiian voyagers had a general knowledge of a later monotheistic supreme being, and this evangelistic strategy will reveal that the religious system was imposed upon the Hawaiians by a foreign entity. The author surveyed the history of the dualism/monism debate, the biblical view and the philosophical and scientific arguments for each side, in order to explicate the issue. Chapter 1 introduces the ministry project. Chapter 2 provides a description of the ministry at Agape Community Fellowship Church. Chapter 3 provides a literature review of published works. Chapter 4 reflects theologically on the project. Chapter 5 provides an exegetical argument for multiracial churches. Chapter 6 critically analyzes the performance of the dissertation. It surveys the faith stories of seven evangelical leaders and their sons from the mid-twentieth century to the present. It also surveys the canon of scripture to see how the baton of faith is passed or not passed from fathers to sons. Using an author-developed questionaire, the seven case studies were evaluated in the areas of conversion experience, subsequent challenges to faith, and relationship between fathers and sons. In addition this research examines father/son relationships through the entire canon of scripture.
