The project attempted to create a practical and applicable approach that enhances men's ministries in the local church by applying biblical principles relating specifically to leadership and spiritual character development.  An eight-member support group focused on leadership, integrity, fellowship and training (LIFT).  The anticipated desire for the development of the project is to create future training opportunities for other laity. The author researched and studied other follow-up procedures developed and implemented by various churches having small groups.  This author developed an ecclesiological treatise and system of assimilation through hundreds of practical hours of faithful follow-up of guests who attended corporate worship services. The author will seek to assist those who have had an encounter with evil and suffering to interpret their own experience.  Biblical and philosophical knowledge will be integrated with their personal experience as a means of equipping them to provide care for others who are currently suffering.  The project proposes that attempts to address the problem of evil and suffering through theodicy fail to provide both the adequate theoretical answers and the practical comfort sufferers need.  The project further proposes that the personal experience of those who have suffered uniquely qualifies them to address the suffering of others.  The concepts of a suffering God and the ethical demands of the incarnation will be presented as a basis for a philosophy of ministry to fellow sufferers. The power of personal testimony, the power of presence, the process of grief, and the pursuit of a mature faith will be offered as a means of preparing individuals to provide care for fellow sufferers. The project will make use of James Fowler's Stage Theory of Faith Development to provide a structure for the concept of growing faith. Participants will reflect upon their respective faith journeys, and use the Stage Theory to analyze their own faith experience.  The project will then introduce the use of classic spiritual disciplines to a group of church members through the use of material by Richard Foster in The Celebration of Discipline.  The author will propose that the practice of these disciplines will positively influence faith development.  The project will also investigate ways that the disciplines have influenced various Christian traditions as examples of the growth produced by the disciplines.  The author will also preach a sermon series intended to introduce the disciplines to the rest of the congregation. Finally, the project focuses upon vocation as the partnership of believers with God. The trained church members will then be equipped to have an ongoing, balanced evangelism ministry in their community.  The training curriculum will cover the three-fold aspects of prayer, witnessing, and follow-up, for balanced evangelism.  A comparison will be made between the participating churches as to the anthropological differences and the effectiveness of this ministry, in the areas of member involvement, conversions, baptisms, and new believers completing the follow-up materials. This project should demonstrate that a church could have an effective and balanced evangelism ministry regardless of location, financial resources, and anthropological differences. The congregation was separated into two groups for a period of eight weeks.  One group experienced video-assisted sermons and the other did not.  Each group was tested for retention of the sermon message. Results from the testing were further divided into five generations present in the church.  Statistically it could not be said that greater retention was gained by video-assistance.
