I proposed that doulos be translated slave based on the Pauline assessment and modeling of this biblical doctrine.  Relevant data was gathered using a mixed-method approach to equip PR to parallel two motifs or models: slaves of Christ with slaves to sin who support the prosperity gospel heresy.  The slave language was challenging as PR consists of offspring of American slaves. Yet PR leaders agreed to participate in this project to dispel misunderstanding and encourage an examination of biblical teaching on this avoided topic. The church has chosen to define the vocational call more in terms of function rather than its nature. Ministry that does not include a preaching element fits into the accepted categories of service in the church. However, this functional position undercuts the power of God's call to all and elevates clergy-related leadership as the more desired calling. Hence there is a need to ably and holistically evaluate the nature and not merely the function of the call. The focus of this project was to design a framework of Scripture, reason, experience, and tradition to clarify this process better assist those working through their sense of calling. It is hoped that under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they will apply and exercise their calling to some aspect of full-time clergy or called laity ministry. A theology of revival was derived from Scripture and a plan to stir a hunger for revival was developed from that theology.  The plan that was implemented focused primarily on the word of God and prayer. In this climate, how does a military chaplain do expository doctrinal preaching?  This writer will attempt to show that doctrinal preaching is best done in an expository manner through diligent study, prayer, and a reliance on the Holy Spirit.  Relevance is accomplished when the particulars of a given congregation are addressed.  Chapter one addresses the problem of preaching that is mostly eisegetical and not exegetical.  Chapter two establishes the biblical, sociological, and theological basis for doctrinal preaching with a contemporary congregation in mind.  Chapter three reveals the methodology to address the stated problem, that of a preaching series on Bible doctrine. The stated primary goal is transformation, seeking the salvation of sinners and sanctification of saints.  Progress of the project is also charted. Chapter four concludes with an evaluation gleaned from 24 surveys that were completed at the conclusion of the 14-week preaching series.
