This goal would be achieved in part through an adaptable-approach workbook. It cannot be assumed that the pastor has completed his development, but further intentional effort must be pursued. This project developed a lesson plan for pastors in a small group setting which defined spiritual development, established three biblical elements of spiritual development and its theological foundation. The author researched the theoretical, sociological, theological, and biblical perspectives of spirituality with application. Also, the author presented diverse exercises to implement for spiritual development and incentives for engaging the process. It attempts to determine whether a better system of pastoral care for pastors might minimize instances of negative transition and related pastoral problems.  The study includes a survey of relevant biblical passages and a fairly extensive literature review.  The field work surveys a representation of solo and senior pastors, district superintendents, and denominational leaders. A bi-monthly, six-hour spiritual enrichment cluster assisted pastors at their own level of spirituality.  Clusters included assignments and readings, discussion of two disciplines, and sharing progress in implementing the disciplines. Assessment instruments gave pastors a before and after evaluation of their individual progress.  Pastors registered not only an increased passion for God, but also personal growth in the fruit of the Spirit.  Daily times spent in prayer and reflection increased appreciably. The pastoral model in this project is the Apostle Paul as he provided leadership to the church in Corinth, particularly through the letter of 2 Corinthians. The project surveys literature reviewing issues facing pastors. The author surveyed 900 churches in five evangelical Canadian congregational-based denominations, covering denominational leaders, the senior pastor, and a key lay leader from each church. Pastor Care proposes that with denominational leaders acting as a catalyst, lay leaders can create a culture of care among local church leaders and assist pastors to find a mentor.
