Biblical truth must be articulated in understandable and applicable conceptual language.  The next generation of preachers are challenged to develop sermons that spiritually impact our contemporary audiences.  A brief comparison of the Postmodern and Enlightenment eras is followed by communication principles and guidelines regarding clarity and relevancy.  Selected Greek terms referring to the act of preaching and New Testament 'sermons' will provide insight into developing clear and relevant sermons. Ths information was gained through a written survey of those missionaries who had completed the Assemblies of God Graduate School (AGGS) pre-field training program.  The results of the survey showed a strongly favorable response to the AGGS pre-field training program, with those aspects dealing with cross-cultural communication and cultural adjustment rating the highest.  Language learning was of greatest concern. The principles of andragogy employed in a non-formal setting were found to be the most effective.  Training for cross-cultural service required a heavy emphasis on the development of interpersonal skills.
