God created humanity with the capacity to reflect intimacy. The human relationship that has the potential of the maximum degree of intimacy is in marriage. As the divine architect of marriage, God offers guidelines for insuring a healthy pursuit of marital intimacy. Thus this project has, with necessary limitations, developed a unit within the undergraduate course, 'Theology of marriage' at Central Bible College, describing a perspective of a theology of marital intimacy. Chapter 1 assesses marriage permanence in America, then identifies six objectives and four lecture themes to be delivered in a premarriage class.  A survey of Bible passages addressing marriage comprises chapter 2, and chapter 3 presents a survey of current literature in support of the lecture themes.  Chapters 4 and 5 tell the story and assess the success of series, respectively. The project examined the literature of premarital counseling, determined through surveys what pastors in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod South and North Wisconsin Districts are presently using in their ministries, and determined through surveys what premarital counseling the married members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church had. This research led to development and implementation of a six-session premarital counseling program and a manual covering six topics and designed for couples to keep throughout their marriage. The goal is not to isolate the therapeutic benefits of the spiritual disciplines, but to grow in godliness.  Doctoral classes and library research were combined to create an eight-session class which focused first on intimacy and spiritual intimacy.  The remaining six sessions dealt with the spiritual disciplines of the Word, meditative prayer, simplicity, forgiveness, service and worship. In 'the awareness stage', the project assesses the significance of both hopeful and fearful literature on marriage and family.  In 'the initial stage', he recounts an inductive Bible study and self-examination of his own marriage eventuating in the development of two programs: (1) strengthened pre-marital counseling and (2) a two-staged post-marital program.  'The developmental stage' deals with a third ongoing ministry to help new parents develop parenting skills.
