This project proposes an additional step in the movement from text to praxis via the intermediary of the theological focus for all types of literature, but especially for narrative. To test the effectiveness of this methodology, a five-part preaching series from the book of Ruth was evaluated to determine the model's effectiveness. Current missionary activities in Japan are examined.  A survey was conducted on the teaching of missiology in Japanese seminaries.  Both surveys confirmed the need to establish a clearer understanding of evangelical missiology in Japan.  David J Hesselgrave's textbook, Today's choices for tomorrow's mission, is evaluated as being the best choice among missiological texts for Japanese Christians.  The question whether a dynamic equivalent translation is better than a formal translation is discussed. The approach is as follows: First, the primary data are gathered through the use of a 'Homiletical Questionnaire' which surveyed 104 Protestant and Roman Catholic homiletics professors.  Second, a primary quantitative analysis of the 16 most popular texts is performed by using a 'Homiletical Scorecard' with 261 headings.
