This study intends to analyze the current needs of the house churches in China in order to improve the effectiveness of their leadership development, particularly for the Christian Ministry Institute (CMI). The methodology presented in this project is a combination of the following six components.  The director of Church of God World Missions has vast practical experience at various levels of leadership.  His desire is for a practical approach that has a large portion of training time taking place in an overseas or foreign context.  The next area of focus concentrates on strategic leadership meetings. While much time has been spent consulting with Church of God World Missions, other key departments have been consulted within our denomination as well. The third area of impact on the methodology of this project is the literature review.  Various sources have been used including lecture notes, books, and dissertations on holistic discipleship.  In addition, the literature review gathers specific information for the missionary training manual that is not a part of this dissertation project.  Another major factor that influences this project is my past ten years of experience in leading a discipleship training program.  These years of experience play a crucial role in shaping the discipleship component of the missionary training paradigm.  The fifth major area that has shaped this project is the courses and faculty I have been exposed to at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Several professors taught modules that have helped establish a holistic discipleship structure to minister to the whole person.  The final component is the data that was received from current Church of God missionaries that completed the design questionnaire. The workshop was developed and implemented by the author in cooperation with Ecuadorian leadership during a two-year term from July, 1999, to June, 2001. Questionnaires and interviews were used to evaluate the outcome. They indicated significant involvement in discipling as much as two years after the workshop. They can be combined with evangelism to form the outreach ministry of the church to its community.  Various Chinese churches in different countries have used this model of sharing the love and the gospel of Christ through evangelism and social services.  The focus of this project is the development of a community ministry plan for a Chinese church in Canada.  The author surveyed over a hundred and fifty Chinese churches in eastern Canada and conducted in-depth interviews with four of the churches with community ministry.  Furthermore, three community service organizations in Ottawa where the author's church is located were interviewed in order to better assess the needs of the community.  Based on the findings of the research, a plan is developed to implement community ministry. This project examined biblical and extra-biblical texts, contemporary leadership and management materials on servant leadership and input from churches operating with the Carver policy governance model for their governing board for application to the elder board of First Evangelical Free Church of Maplewood, Minnesota. Category sets of governing policies and elder selection and screening materials were developed. This project consisted of developing six lessons on prayer principles that would help train church members to grow in praying through growth barriers. Surveys were taken, classes were held and follow-up steps were implemented to pray through growth barriers. For consistent improvement to occur, there must be a plan for evaluation.  In many areas of life it is possible to take personal inventory and evaluate oneself.  Why not practice the same discipline in preaching?  Improvement implies a standard.  The author has concluded that the standard of preaching is made up of three essential elements.  These elements are the content of the sermon, its ability to connect with the listeners, and spiritual life.  A good sermon must proclaim the truth of Scripture, be relevant to those who hear it, and become a supernatural event.  The author then questioned a group of pastors concerning their efforts for improvement.  Fourteen of these pastors volunteered to participate in a six-week project for improvement through self-analysis.  Only three of the volunteers actually participated. The author explains and analyszes the results of the survey and the experiences of those who did the personal review.
