The task appears even more challenging when preaching Old Testament narratives, because this genre usually does not offer obvious statements from which preachers can formulate applications. What kind of lessons should be drawn from biblical narratives? How does the preacher develop hermeneutically sound and contemporarily relevant applications from this genre?  The project centered around two goals: to enhance the congregants' competence in applying OT narratives to their lives; and to improve the quality of sermon applications in the project writer's preaching. The project implemented proposed theories by developing and delivering a sermon series on Genesis 37-50 in the project writer's congregation. With that in mind, I undertook this project to explore how to incorporate various kinds of preaching. The three-fold goal was to develop a biblical philosophy of preaching, preaching planning, and to create a process for long-range planning that incorporates the preaching of the whole counsel of God. The project argues that biblical preaching must intentionality and accurately incorporate the entire scriptures in the process of making disciples, and proclaimed in the context of public preaching and teaching. It explored the biblical and theological foundation for inter-generational ministry, and reflected upon current literature. The rationale was shared with the elders and the congregation, and they engaged in several events planned to include multiple-age groups. Their responses to these events and attitudes toward inter-generational ministry were collected through a congregational survey and from feedback from the leaders. Study of mentoring practice, particularly as modeled by Jesus and Paul, revealed the biblical prominence of this leadership development approach. Educational literature review identified the best training principles and practices for adult learners, specifically church planters. Qualitative research interviews were conducted with seminary administrators, field mentors, and mentored seminarians now active in church planting. Field education documents from twelve evangelical seminaries were studied. The project report sets the proposed handbook in its historical, biblical, and organizational contexts, reflecting documentary research, biblical exegesis, and interviews with PBT veterans and representatives from other translation agencies. Three exercises were employed to (1) create an awareness of the need for change and to identify church leaders who are innovators and early adopters; (2) appraise the heritage, skills, and spiritual gifts of the congregation; and (3) take a fresh look at the community to discern its needs. This study explored how disciples of Jesus Christ from upper-caste Hindu and Jain Gujarati backgrounds (outside India) perceive their experiences of opposition from family and community/caste, resulting in alienation, during the time they were being evangelized. Research combined interviews of Gujarati believers (from the UK and Africa) with interviews of two missionaries. Believers reported receiving little guidance for discussing their journey with family members. Negative reactions came when individuals professed faith in Christ. Intense relational breakdown was short-lived. Fifteen qualified people from the congregation evaluated the project by means of questionnaires, personal interviews, and group interviews.
