A course in spiritual gifts and other lay and clergy-led initiatives were presented. Significant members of community were invited to participate in study and address membership. Written surveys, questionnaires, small group discussions, and observations, were used to collect data. The process, which grew out of the experience of a local church in transition, resulted in a workbook which assists the local church in identifying issues essential for change to occur.  Chapter 9 and the appendix summarize the process experienced at Forrest Memorial United Methodist Church (Hurricane, West Virginia).
