The purpose is to determine if the presence of a mentoring program is beneficial and to ascertain the spiritual fitness of associate ministers.  Mentoring is one of the treatments for this problem. The hypothesis is that associate ministers are often untrained, and unprepared to ascertain their call to ministry, if they are prepared, trained and mentored they will be more effective in their call to ministry.  A quantitative research method will be used involving surveys. Working with clergy and churches in my region of South Los Angeles, the methodology included: congregational surveys, clergy interviews, sermon series, an online training course, and post-training follow-up. The hypothesis was that associate ministers lacked mentoring and training in the area of ministry. To accomplish this goal, five instructional classes were taught on mentoring and training for associate ministers. Pre- and post-test results of the instructional classes showed that the associate ministers were untrained and improperly mentored. The project consisted of a focus group of thirteen pastors participating in a workshop forum. A quantitative research design was used with pre and post-tests. In this project, eighteen clergy from different denominations in the Greater Kanawha Valley in West Virginia participated in focus groups addressing questions selected by the moderator. Clergy members were encouraged to talk freely about their concerns and perspectives. Verbatim transcripts were generated from three focus-group discussions.  Quotes from clergy participants were grouped into thematic areas for the purpose of qualitative analysis. A qualitative research method was employed using surveys and in-depth interviews.  The researcher discovered that conflict situations exist, that participants have an understanding of conflict, and that they believe the church should be concerned about the issue of conflict.  Many participants have unresolved feelings where conflict situations are not engaged. The system includes a comprehensive training program and subsequent ministry of pastoral supervision, and is tested with a pilot group of conflict resolution consultants. The research demonstrates the effectiveness of the system in assisting churches and church staffs in resolving conflicts. This project sought to assist such growth through developing personal learning plans based on ministry needs in a supportive group context.  Ten Fort Wayne Lutheran pastors met monthly for eight months. Beginning with lay and self-evaluation of pastoral functions, each pastor developed a learning plan complete with goals, resources, time table and accountability structure.
