Each session included prayer, worship, lecture, discussion, and reflective journaling. Interviews, surveys, field notes, and journaling validated the qualitative case studies. The methodology used to achieve the goal took place in the form of a pre and post-test, journaling, spiritual gifts inventory, and exit interviews. The findings of the project showed that participants were strengthened as a result of the classes taught. Because spiritual formation is a lifelong process, it is recommended that classes be taught every year."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128953174360064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:08:00.014Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:43:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e0ecfd51-07ff-4fc6-851a-7d55c26d97d3","accessControl_ssim":["bdd05fc9-a072-4eb7-9ade-8a52c987e2a0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Spiritual transformation and growth"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:43:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:34:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ae2f41d8-3744-46a2-b938-644e53d2b6c9"],"hasLease_ssim":["a5e21b9f-29e3-4485-a13d-da36b634ebb0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Larry Grunden"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Douglas Banks"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (Dayton, OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Protestantism","Spiritual formation","Spiritual life--Christianity","Grace Reformed Church (Brooklyn, NY)","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The study was undertaken to demonstrate that intentional spiritual education, development, and experience will produce observable positive change in the life of the church. The project placed a particular emphasis upon the youth. The context was Grace Reformed Church, Brooklyn, New York. A youth worship service and a vacation Bible school were developed to provide experience and education in God awareness and self-awareness in God. Context associates and senior youth were trained and taught by the researcher in order to develop leaders in the subject area. For six weeks, classroom sessions were held twice a week and the youth conducted the youth worship service on Sundays. The action research model and case study analysis revealed that this intervention improved the general behavior of the youth and indicated a greater commitment to the church of God by young people and adults."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129935588360192,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:36.917Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:42:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a16d4a16-4ae3-4d06-b445-05ee4baa6e32","accessControl_ssim":["a5f0f6bd-4c27-49db-b169-7ea952b4aa7f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["From sideline religion to enduring spirituality: models for growing mature Christians"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:42:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:50:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1d08cb39-117d-4ed0-8c7a-7a86f5fbce06"],"hasLease_ssim":["e3fbb3fd-b14d-4714-9635-245d75a3eda4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Helen Wilcox-Evwaraye"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mark Wendell Thompson"],"keyword_tesim":["Practice (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (Dayton, OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Spiritual life--Christianity","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The objective of this study was to determine what was causing an African American church to practice their faith at arm's length from God's intent. To address the question, a focus group was engaged to study four disciplines of the faith: meditation, sabbath, commitment, and service, to determine if they would help facilitate a movement toward spiritual wholeness. The findings indicated that there was a lack of awareness of the disciplines, combined with significant life components that vied for their attention.
