M. E. Zion Church.  Proactive methodology in research tested the hypothesis that churches having an Episcopal form of government must find creative ways to empower their congregation to deal with unwanted change. This author used surveys and individual interviews with A. M. E. pastors to assess the reassignment process.  The findings indicated that the absence of communication before reassignment had the emotional effect associated with loss, diminishing Itinerant Elder authority in ministry and their role as a partner in the vision for the church.
