GROUP used Gathering, Resources, Opportunities, Understandings, and Participants as key ingredients in eradicating the damaging effects of racism on African American males between the ages of 15 and 19. The research was done at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois. Religious belief systems of African Americans informed the process. The church implemented a leadership program to teach youth how to manage a media ministry. Youth were taught by multi-media specialists principles of pre-production, production, post-production, and promotion. Using a questionnaire for pre- and post-test, levels of self-esteem were measured. Results show that media ministry activities contribute to the maintenance of youth's positive self-esteem. Further results show support for the thesis that the youth of today can contribute greatly to the local church. This realization enhances self-esteem which in turn directs persons to the wholeness and joy of the Lord.  Participants, through a personal study of theology and psychology, were given the opportunity to integrate their insights into human life.  Each project associate had time for self-reflection and discovery so that they, as the church, could work intentionally at being an affirming body.  The author outlined this concept, termed 'affirmation', and its biblical, theological and psychological bases.  He reported the process of the project, as well as the results. The T.P.M. was a 24-week intervention program divided into 6-week modules. Each module was used to nurture the physical, psychological, and spiritual development of African American males, at the University Community Christian Church, located at 2171 Avondale Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46218. The Linear Analytic Model included: role play, group discussion, lectures, direct observation, prayer, and scripture.
