Prior to my arrival as Director of Music in July of 2006, worship was characterized by a strong sense of 'performance' of the spoken word and musical liturgy. As we welcome new members and continue to seek ways to live out our covenant to honor and celebrate people of all races, cultures, ages, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities, our worship must also reflect this acknowledgment of diversity in our community, and must inform our shared experience of the divine in all of our lives. In informal discussions and workshops church members grapple with use of drums, sasa, and African robes by choirs and clergy; incorporation of traditional values of initiation from Sande and Poro societies in the sacrament of baptism; and use of cassava bread and palm wine as elements of the Lord's supper. They conclude that Africanization will provide greater opportunity for growth and development of the church, but use of cassava bread and palm wine will require further study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716985847676928,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:11:06.203Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:57:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:09:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ee6df3e1-ba90-4f9e-a03c-380091f54415","accessControl_ssim":["d2a9d972-8917-40a8-a60f-4a8b35ebbbd2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Activation of the lay ministry in the Korean church through change in understanding of ministry and lay office"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:57:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:56:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4f67799b-5452-4f8c-b61d-db9d793bb1b4"],"hasLease_ssim":["f4b8559e-5fb6-427e-a55a-94130dcac024"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Lowes Watson"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"location_tesim":["Korea"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It explores the distinctive nature, the bondage and liberation of man according to this Hindu philosophical view and Christianity. The former maintains the unity of the essential self and brahman, the ill consequences of Avidya and Karma and the way of freedom through Moksha. The latter teaches that man, the creature, estranged and enslaved in sin, is distinct from God, the creator, but he through faith can be reconciled to God by the death of Christ on the cross.
