The purpose of this project was to restore the essence of the church and to foster newcomers on the basis of the theologies of Hospitality and Class Meeting in Methodism. The author aggregated the scattered newcomer-ministries into one (which is Majung Sokhoe), and he entrusted all the ministries of welcoming, guiding, and nurturing newcomers to Majung Sokhoe. The analysis suggests that Majung Sokhoe increases the retention/settling rate, grows the faith of laity, and changes the existing class meetings and the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716634100760576,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:05:30.751Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:35:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:38:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fae07519-01d0-49f7-8677-90931dbcfa79","accessControl_ssim":["eae2c93e-bda9-40cc-911d-b981730f4331"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Radical hospitality: practicing God's welcome as the other in but out in a cross-racial and cross-cultural appointment and the effect on pastoral leadership and congregational life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:35:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:18:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["abf9a680-4894-4cb8-b74b-0e60ade5d02d"],"hasLease_ssim":["dbfe6aac-4ed9-41eb-b593-d977d57177ac"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Bruce G Epperly"],"year_tesim":["2014"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Prior to my arrival as Director of Music in July of 2006, worship was characterized by a strong sense of 'performance' of the spoken word and musical liturgy. As we welcome new members and continue to seek ways to live out our covenant to honor and celebrate people of all races, cultures, ages, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities, our worship must also reflect this acknowledgment of diversity in our community, and must inform our shared experience of the divine in all of our lives. This project and paper detail the beginning of this transformation in our particular faith community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721911679188992,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:29:23.842Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:53:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:11:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f441017f-1174-49f1-8a33-1789a1b5c5c7","accessControl_ssim":["964e5e36-666b-4da8-ad43-becd9c0c1bed"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Deliverance from Hurricane Katrina: hospitality from strangers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:53:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:06:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["51baf006-9843-4910-90be-f01b1293b8ef"],"hasLease_ssim":["6a2351ee-ee78-4ed8-b675-62bd67c33188"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["R Kendall Soulen"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It opens with the Spirit of God moving or migrating across the face of the waters and ends with the book of Revelation being written by John while he is in exile on the isle of Patmos. The key event for Christians is the birth of Jesus, the refugee Christ. The text outlines the migration narrative and compares and contrasts the relationship between the treatment of migrants, immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers of today with those of that time period. The predominant term used for these groups in the text is 'strangers.' Theologically, the text develops the need for and method to practice inclusive hospitality in response to the strangers in the United States during the 21st century. Inclusive hospitality is developed by embracing the diversity of the Trinity and the teachings of the Bible. God, the creator, repeatedly mandates hospitality to strangers in the Hebrew Bible. Christ Jesus comes as the refugee, migrant, stranger and, in addition, models acceptance of and hospitality towards strangers. The Holy Spirit is presently with us, sent by Christ to guide and direct our response in the kairos moment in which we live. God continues to come as the stranger and we are challenged to respond with inclusive hospitality. The theology of the mystic Howard Thurman is also used to aid in responding to the strangers in the land. In responding, the decision to choose between God's law and man's law sometimes becomes a necessity. This issue is addressed with a chapter that provides an overview of immigration law to aid in understanding present-day immigration questions. In addition to providing information on immigrants, migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, the text offers a variety of teaching and worship materials. These include studies on the variety of immigrants, worship materials, general information, and three educational programs. They are a seven-session study that gives an overview of the immigration categories; a five-session study, 'Immigration: blessing or curse,' which seeks to have the participants decide; and a refugee study guide for children, youth, and adults. In addition, other educational materials are provided to facilitate an understanding of the importance of developing a theology of inclusive hospitality to welcome the strangers in the land -- because once we were strangers in the land of Egypt."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720892360556544,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:13:11.744Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:20:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:23:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b4020ce8-e548-439d-a693-f95be8bb703a","accessControl_ssim":["7889ec06-c554-48d3-b962-0a6cd6534f06"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Here today, here tomorrow: implementing biblical concepts of hospitality for a growing congregation, the possibility of measurable transformation at Church of the Cross UMC in Wooster, Ohio"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:20:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:19:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9e5ef826-67de-4ce7-a8e3-8657db3a47b2"],"hasLease_ssim":["6502c8f6-2f54-472c-a820-09b02ff8caff"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The author researched biblical concepts of hospitality. Sermons and Sunday School classes focused on hospitality. The method of research was twofold: to preach and teach on hospitality, and to track the attendance and number of visitors to the congregation.
