The discipleship pathway of Good Shepherd campus (“Good Shepherd”) and Savage campus (“Savage”) of The United Methodist Church in the greater Washington area has been focusing on a personal holiness that neglects social holiness. As persons participate in the process of finding the self, they are embarking on the mystical spiritual journey of awakening, dark night of the soul, and union with the divine. The elements of the project included experimental teaching on the story of Judith and hero's journey as well as time spent in contemplative reflection by each participant. The project took place during retreats of Anam Cara (Soul Friend), the two-year missional spiritual direction training program of the Missional Wisdom Foundation. A survey of chaplains was done regarding their experiences, and from the survey a five sermon series on prayer was produced and presented. However, there has been a shift in the demographics, the attitudes and behaviors of the community. The author explored how reclaiming the model of prayer found in the Psalms and its undergirding theology may offer a healthier model of prayer. Lectio Divina was introduced as a vehicle to encourage retreat participants to write their own poem/prayers. The spirituality of prayer is vital both in an individual life and in the life of a community.  When faced with personal difficulties, family issues, social conflicts, and relationship problems, we pray and ask others to pray for us.  It is natural for us to ask for intercessory prayer when troubles come in our daily lives.  A theology of prayer regards prayer as a key to all these troubles. Contemplative prayer will bring a path to wholeness and heal the true self so that greater peace and charity in daily life can be enjoyed.  I taught ten weeks of a contemplative prayer seminar in spring and fall, 2005.  I interviewed and surveyed participants how contemplative prayer could affect their daily life.
