The survey was conducted before and after the training program among 30 new church members and 30 lay leaders. In order to rehabilitate the church and to help all the members of the church to grow to the fullness of Christ, we have to fight against a lot of difficulties. We need a ministry essence and steady ministry philosophy which our Lord has taught us if we want to go through all the spiritual fights. Rather than following the trends, but to hold on to the essence would make out a good result. The responsibility of a minister is not to stay in an honored place, but to serve church members to let them perform their own parts well. God always pays attention to one person, trains him (her) and achieves his work through the person. The dissertation is made up of a theological part and a pastoral practical part.  In the theological part, I will explore the biblical understanding of diaconia and modern theological understanding. In the practical part, I would like to suggest and practice diaconia ministry by renewing all areas of ministry. As a result, the church is faced with spiritual stagnation that keeps it from growing.  The church has tried in vain to employ various programs to get over this.  Based on the pastoral analysis that the dullness of the class meeting is attributed to the lack of spirit and performance of the class leaders, this paper explores the ten components of servant leadership as a way of restoring the roles of the class leader and activating the function of the class meeting. The Robert K. Greenleaf Center's emphasis, 'Servant leader's ten characteristics,' was made in to the Bible study teaching material, 'Do as I have done for you.'  The teaching material was aimed at the participants who wanted to attend the Ames Korean United Methodist Church small group leadership class.  'A Bible study for servant leadership as lay leadership training program' was successfully executed.  In order to measure the effect on the lay leader training program, the first program of participants completed an assessment of the program.  In order to measure the awareness of changes as a servant leader, the second program of participants completed another assessment. This study examines the role of the churches as an important part of downtown Washington DC experienced the trauma of urban renewal.  Initially, the church's response was dominated by institutional concerns of building and maintaining itself.  Slowly, patterns of community involvement and mission evolved.
